Technical wine descriptions
Red, 2003-2004-2005
60 % Syrah et 40% Grenache
This traditional red reflects the wines that Richard Labene (the wine maker) loves to drink, powerful and fruity.
The Syrah brings the softness and the spices.
The Grenache, as a powerful variety, is a little rigid when the wine is young,
but it brings structure and ageing ability to the blend. A wine with a high profile.
It is refined with a year in the vat and then a year in the bottle.
When released, this wine is in its second year and ready to drink.
However, for those who wish to treat themselves may keep it longer.
Rosé
As a full-bodied wine, the Château St Méry rose is recommended not only as a before dinner drink but can be brought to the table. Extracted from the vat of St Mery red in the first few days of the alcoholic fermentation, the Syrah and the Grenache both have strong personalities to accompany tasty, spicy and exotic meals. Great with Moroccan, Thai, Indian and Chinese cuisines. If served with a French meal, we suggest a “cheese fondue”.
White
Despite the winery is known for its reds, you will be enchanted by our white wine from the fifty year old Grenache plantation. Traditionally cultivated for making a sweet wine, Richard Labene has created a dry wine for the modern market. This Grenache vineyard, situated on a hillside, orientated south for full sun exposure, protected by the surrounding bush land produces a low yield of 30 hl/ha. In the cellar, the oak barrel ageing stimulates roundedness to make an elegant wine of floral fragrances and citrus fruits aromas. When released it is ready for drinking.
